Leadership is an essential skill in a surgeon. But leadership qualities can be developed during residency rather than waiting until later in your career. Abdominal wall closure after colorectal surgery is a crucial procedure to decrease postoperative complications and reoperations. Thus, in this video, Dr. Maria Magdalena analyzes different papers and articles about the topic. First of all, she brings to the table various guidelines of 2015. Both of them, have recommendations on how to perform different techniques and use some devices. Moreover, she gives special attention to 3 topics: middle incisions, small bites technique and the use of absorbable monofilament sutures. Secondly, the doctor brings a paper from 2019 to answer whether surgeons should opt for prophylactic mesh reinforcement when closing a stoma site. And finally, Dr. Maria Magdalena presents another article, discussing which method of stoma closure avoids the most risk of incisional hernia. Although the doctor has presented and summarized different articles, we encourage you to read them from your own by clicking their links on this web.
