The Hudson's Hysterectomy in Ovarian Cancer

This presentation delves into the technical nuances of Hudson’s hysterectomy as applied to advanced ovarian cancer, emphasizing radical cytoreductive strategies. Hudson’s classification, established in 1968, categorizes the procedure into three increasingly complex types: Type I includes hysterectomy with pelvic peritonectomy; Type II adds low anterior resection (LAR); and Type III further involves bladder resection. These classifications offer a structured approach to maximizing cytoreductive outcomes, with each type tailored to the disease extent. Through a series of technical videos, the presentation demonstrates each procedural type’s surgical techniques, highlighting critical steps such as pelvic peritonectomy, Type I shaving, and discoid resection. These visual demonstrations are informed by advanced approaches from Bristow, Sugarbaker, and Ramirez, emphasizing precision in achieving optimal cytoreduction. Each video segment provides a step-by-step guide to executing these techniques effectively, allowing practitioners to refine their surgical skills in alignment with contemporary standards. By presenting a systematic and practical view of Hudson’s hysterectomy classifications, this presentation offers gynecologic oncologic surgeons a comprehensive visual guide, enhancing understanding and implementation of advanced surgical methods in ovarian cancer management.
