His teaching work includes the creation of the world's largest digital education portal in surgery in the world with free access to more than 1 million users in more than 100 countries. Through his fundraising and patronage work, he has accumulated contributions to the public system of more 25 million euros.
His main areas of interest are currently Transanal ColoRectal Endoscopic Surgery (TACRES) (TaTME, Transanal Proctectomy in IBD & Transanal Approach in Hartmann’s Reversal), the robotic approach to colorectal and esophageal pathologies and the use of the last technologies and new surgical innovations such as the use of indocyanine green in all its applications (vascular perfusion, lymphatic mapping, metastasis identification….), visualization in 3D and currently in 4k. Professor Lacy participates in several international working groups, such as the international registry of transanal TME. He has performed over 700 TaTME cases to date. He is also a member of international multidisciplinary working groups for bariatric surgery, type 2 diabetes, and Metabolic Syndrome. Also, he initiated the national program in Catalonia of Peritoneal Carcinomatosis with Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) plus Chemotherapy and Hyperthermia (HIPEC).
Dr. Lacy is the founder of Advances in Surgery (AIS), a global surgical and medical knowledge-transferring, data-driven ecosystem, comprising a set of digital correlative platforms, with the purpose of facilitating access to high-quality content created by the world's best specialists. Its goal is to accelerate the training/learning curve so as to close the gap between innovation and adoption, through the use of behavioral analysis, artificial intelligence, active listening, and adaptive learning management systems.
Finally, among the distinctions he has received are Honorary Fellowships from the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, International Ambassador of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, as well as the Ramon Llull Award, the Josep Trueta Medal for the Generalitat de Catalunya or the Lino Torre Award for Surgical Research Award. In this session, Dr. Antonio M. de Lacy remotely guided Dr. José M. Balibrea through a complex gastric bypass surgery on a 27-year-old patient with a BMI of 36. Using the 4RemoteHealth platform by Zerintia Healthtech, Dr. de Lacy provided real-time guidance from his office, communicating seamlessly with the surgical team in the operating room led by Dr. Balibrea. Even while attending a separate meeting, Dr. de Lacy remained fully connected to the procedure, using the platform to offer timely feedback through his mobile device. This session highlights the revolutionary potential of remote surgical mentoring, made possible by the AIS Telesurgeon and Zerintia Healthtech. The platform enables specialists to guide live surgeries from anywhere in the world, offering high-quality audiovisual communication, enhancing surgical precision, and improving patient outcomes. This is the way for improving surgical education and collaboration, expanding access to expert mentorship and fostering a new era of connected surgery. PROGRAM: 4RemoteHealth Platform Demonstration - Complex Gastric Bypass surgery - Dr. José M. Balibrea (Spain) and Dr. Antonio M. de Lacy (Spain)

Anastomotic leaks are among the most devastating complications in all forms of gastrointestinal surgery. The rates and adverse sequelae of anastomotic leaks are most common and potentially of the greatest detrimental impact at the two ends of the intestinal tract - the esophagus and the rectum. This program is the first one in a four-part series delving into every facet of anastomotic leaks in colorectal surgery practice. Bringing together 5 globally renowned experts, it addresses the incidence, financial, functional, and oncological costs of leaks. Dr. Antonio M. de Lacy, the founder of the AIS Channel, will demonstrate laparoscopic leak management. The program will conclude with a lively globally interactive panel discussion. Designed for every surgeon and surgical trainee involved in colorectal anastomosis, this program offers invaluable insights.
