Innovation & Emerging Technology, Research, Global Health & Access, Clinical Outcomes & Patient Safety
Rob Surgical was created by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) to respond to the minimally invasive robotic surgery (MIRS) challenges of the Mayo Clinic in the U.S. and the European Robotic Surgery Project (EuRoSurge) funded by the European Commission in the FP7.
Mission
To universalise high-precision surgery to address the challenges of the medical community and improve patient care.
Vision To become a global reference in high-precision surgery and a company respected for its innovative, efficient and quality robotic systems, designed according to medical needs.
Main milestones
2008-2011: Research phase with UPC, IBEC and Mayo Clinic experts.
2012: Rob Surgical spin-off is created in Barcelona with the aim of achieving this leading research in hospitals and patients.
2012-2018: Our engineering team develops the functional prototype of the Bitrack system.
2014: We perform the first surgery with animal models.
2018: Bitrack has successfully completed its pre-design unit technical validation.
2020: ISO 13485 Certification.
Main challenges
We have proposed to universalize high-precision surgery with a new efficiency approach where precision and safety are a must and that allows for a wider range of surgical procedures and reach an unbeatable balance between added value and cost.

Is a distinguished specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology. With a career rooted in academic excellence and clinical precision, she has dedicated her practice to advancing women's healthcare within one of Germany’s most prestigious university medical centers. Her clinical expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of gynecological health, where she integrates evidence-based medicine with a patient-centered approach to manage both routine and high-risk obstetric cases. Dr. Hatzirafail’s professional journey is characterized by a rigorous commitment to surgical and diagnostic mastery. Having earned her medical degree and completed specialized training (Fachärztin), she has developed a profound proficiency in modern gynecological procedures and maternal-fetal care. Her role within the Friedrich Schiller University network involves not only direct clinical intervention but also active participation in the multidisciplinary environments that define European academic medicine, ensuring the highest standards of safety and innovation for her patients. Beyond her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Hatzirafail is deeply invested in the continuous evolution of her field through professional development and international collaboration. She is recognized for her dedication to the latest advancements in reproductive health and minimally invasive techniques. As a member of the academic medical community in Jena, she contributes to a culture of excellence, bridging the gap between complex theoretical research and the practical needs of women at every stage of life.

In this 30-minute interactive session, two international leaders from different specialties meet in a "Clinical Dialogue" format to debate the future of surgical education. The goal is to analyze how robotics is transforming the learning curve and what changes are necessary to train the surgeons of tomorrow. In this 30-minute interactive session, two international leaders from different specialties meet in a "Clinical Dialogue" format to debate the future of surgical education. The goal is to analyze how robotics is transforming the learning curve and what changes are necessary to train the surgeons of tomorrow. This event is a dynamic conversation without formal presentations, focused on real-world problem solving and the standardization of training on a global level. The event will explore: Reducing the Clinical "Gap": Strategies to shorten the transition between residency/fellowship and independent robotic practice. Standardization of Curricula: The impact of training frameworks such as SERGS and the importance of unified criteria to ensure patient safety. Evolution of Mentorship: How the role of the mentor must adapt in the digital era to ensure efficient and reproducible progression. Global Perspective: A dialogue between the training models of the United States and Europe, leveraging the leadership of the speakers in their respective institutions.
