The Association of Out Surgeons and Allies (AOSA) is proud to work with the AIS Channel to present a discussion on the diverse experiences of LGBTQI+ surgeons and trainees. In this event, you will hear from trainees and attending surgeons on the challenges of being LGBTQI+ in surgical specialties. We will also discuss what individual allies, departments, and institutions can do to alleviate some of these challenges and foster a supportive environment for LGBTQI+ individuals. We will explore how working towards building an inclusive surgical workforce enriches the working environment and enhances the care of the diverse populations that we serve. The intersection of historical systemic policies and healthcare disparities has yet to be fully explored.
